Types of Veneers at O2 Dental Group
Carillas de porcelana
Porcelain veneers cover the whole tooth and are shaped and shaded to complement your appearance. Our cosmetic dentists offer porcelain veneers because they provide fast, dramatic results. We custom craft these front tooth covers to fit and flatter your unique smile.
Lumineers
Si está pensando en las carillas de porcelana, podría ser un candidato ideal para una alternativa llamada Lumineers®. Este tipo de carilla dental es extremadamente delgada y requiere poca o ninguna preparación del diente antes de la colocación.
What Preparation Is Involved With the Veneers Procedure?
Step 1: Initial Consultation
Your dentist will examine your teeth, discuss your smile goals, and determine if veneers are the right solution for your needs. Your dental X-rays and dental impressions may be taken to determine what’s best for you and your dental goals.
Step 2: Treatment Planning
Based on your oral health, your dentist will create a customized treatment plan. This includes selecting veneer shape, shade, and number of teeth to be treated.
Step 3: Tooth Preparation
A small layer of enamel is removed from the front surface of each tooth receiving a veneer. This allows for a natural fit and finish once the veneers are placed.
Step 4: Impressions
Precise impressions of your prepared teeth are taken and sent to a dental lab, where your custom porcelain veneers are designed.
Step 5: Temporary Veneers
While you wait for the final veneers, which usually last between 1 to 2 weeks, temporary veneers may be placed to protect your teeth and give you a preview of your new smile.
Step 6: Final Placement
Once your veneers are ready, your dentist will check their fit, shape, and color. After any adjustments, the veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth using a special dental cement and curing light.
Step 7: Follow-Up
You may be asked to return for a follow-up dental visit to ensure your veneers are comfortable and functioning properly.

Veneers: What You Should Know Before and After Treatment?

Smile Makeover
Veneers offer a dramatic improvement in the appearance of your smile. They can correct discoloration, close gaps, and improve the shape and alignment of teeth in just a few visits.
Stain Resistance
Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining from coffee, tea, or red wine, helping your smile stay bright longer compared to natural teeth.
Sensibilidad dental
Some patients experience mild sensitivity to hot or cold after the enamel is removed for veneer placement. This usually fades within a few days to weeks.
Irreversible Procedure
A thin layer of enamel is permanently removed to apply veneers. Because of this, the procedure is not reversible, and future replacement may be necessary.
Chipping or Cracking Over Time
While veneers are durable, they can still chip or crack under excessive force or habits like nail-biting or teeth grinding. Wearing a night guard is often recommended after getting veneers.
Boost in Confidence
Many patients report an immediate increase in self-esteem and confidence after getting veneers, especially when correcting issues that made them self-conscious.
Aftercare Instructions: Do’s and Don’ts After Getting Veneers
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste to avoid scratching your veneers. Don’t forget to floss once a day to keep your gums healthy.
- Chewing on ice, hard candy, or using your teeth to open packages might chip or dislodge your veneers.
- While veneers are stain-resistant, excessive coffee, tea, red wine, and smoking can discolor the surrounding natural teeth.
- If you grind your teeth at night, wearing a custom night guard can protect your veneers from damage.
- Professional cleanings and checkups every six months will keep your veneers and overall oral health in top shape.
- Don’t use your teeth to open bottles, tear tape, or bite fingernails. This can weaken or damage veneers.

FAQs about Dental Veneers in North Carolina
What happens to teeth underneath veneers?
The teeth underneath remain intact, but may have a thin layer of enamel removed. As long as you maintain good oral hygiene, they stay healthy and protected.
Do veneers stay the same color forever?
Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant and retain their color well, but surrounding natural teeth might cause discoloration, causing a mismatch with your natural teeth over time.
What disqualifies you from veneers?
People with poor oral health, active gum disease, tooth decay, or teeth grinding may not be ideal candidates for getting veneers unless these issues are treated first.
What happens after 20 years with veneers?
After 20 years, veneers may need replacement or repair due to wear and tear, even with proper care. While porcelain veneers can last 15-20 years or longer, natural changes in your mouth can impact their look.
Will insurance cover veneers?
At O2 Dental Group, we offer flexible financing plans to help make veneers and other cosmetic treatments more affordable. Our team will walk you through your options and assist with any questions about insurance or our monthly payment plans.
How long do dental veneers last?
The lifespan of dental veneers varies depending on factors such as the material used, oral hygiene practices, and overall health. Porcelain veneers usually last 10 to 15 years with proper care. On the other hand, composite veneers may last 5 to 8 years, as they are less durable.
Do dental veneers stain?
Yes, veneers can get stained over time. While porcelain veneers are more resistant to staining than natural teeth, they are not completely immune
Do veneers normally smell bad?
No, veneers themselves do not normally smell bad. They are made of materials like porcelain that don’t decay or harbor bacteria. However, if you experience a bad smell from your veneers, it’s likely due to a problem with their placement, your oral hygiene, or other oral health issues.
