Family Dentistry in Durham, NC
Durham runs on a busy clock — Duke, RTP, hospitals, startups, and a lot of parents juggling all of it. A family dental practice ought to fit into that life, not fight it. We’re right in the heart of the Research Triangle, caring for every member of your household from toddlers to grandparents, and we’ve set the office up so that keeping your family’s teeth healthy doesn’t cost you a stack of separate appointments across town.
Now accepting new patients of all ages. Friday appointments available every other week. Reach us at (919) 813-2267.
Why Durham Families Stay With Us
Plenty of Triangle families have tried the churn of switching dentists. What tends to make them stay is that we keep almost everything in-house and we respect your time. One team learns your family’s history and follows it year over year. Kids and parents can be scheduled together. And when life hands you a cracked tooth, you’re not waiting a week for relief.
Same-Day CEREC Crowns — Because You Can't Take Two Days Off
A traditional crown means two appointments and a temporary you have to baby for weeks. Our Durham office mills permanent ceramic crowns in-house with CEREC technology: a digital scan, a crown milled while you wait, bonded the same visit. For a working parent, that’s the difference between one lunch break and two lost mornings. It’s one of the reasons Durham is one of our advanced-care hubs.
A Situation We See Often With Durham Professionals
Someone cracks a molar mid-week, and between meetings at RTP or a shift at Duke they simply can’t spare two mornings for a crown. With our in-office CEREC unit we scan, mill, and bond the permanent crown in a single visit, and they’re back at work that same afternoon instead of babying a temporary for a fortnight and returning later. For a lot of our busy Triangle families, that one-visit turnaround is the whole reason they moved their care to us in the first place.
The Family Care We Provide s
- Six-month cleanings and exams that keep decay and gum trouble from sneaking up on anyone in the house.
- Low-radiation digital X-rays you’ll see on the monitor, not just hear about.
- Sealants and fluoride to shield the teeth most likely to develop cavities.
- Tooth-colored fillings and other routine restorative care.
- Periodontal screening at each visit to catch gum disease early.
- Oral cancer checks built into every adult exam.
First Visits for Kids
Children are welcome from age three. We keep those first appointments short, friendly, and low-pressure, explaining each step in words a kid actually understands. Parents stay in the room, and we never rush a nervous child into more than they’re ready for. A good early experience is what turns “the dentist” from something to dread into something routine.
Your First Appointment
Set aside roughly an hour. We’ll do a full exam, digital images, a gum evaluation, and a cleaning when your mouth is healthy enough for one that day. Anything we find gets explained clearly and put in writing with cost estimates before you commit to a thing. Please bring photo ID, your insurance card if applicable, and a list of current medications.
A Quick Note on Cost
Most dental insurance covers your six-month exams and cleanings in full, so for insured families preventive care usually costs nothing out of pocket. Without insurance, we keep it simple: $137 gets a new patient an exam and X-rays (a cleaning is billed separately). A cleaning on its own runs from $120 for an adult and $100 for a child. Gum disease that calls for a deeper, more involved cleaning costs more — see our periodontal page for those details. No benefits? The O2 Advantage Plan covers your preventive visits for a flat yearly fee, and Sunbit financing handles bigger treatment plans in monthly installments.
Family Dentistry FAQs — Durham
Do you really make crowns in one visit?
Yes. Our Durham office uses CEREC to design, mill, and bond a permanent ceramic crown in a single appointment for most patients — no temporary crown and no second trip.
Can you see my kids and me on the same visit?
We schedule family members together whenever the calendar allows. Tell us who’s coming and we’ll try to line everyone up in one trip.
When should my child start coming to the dentist?
Age three is our starting point. Those early appointments are gentle and mostly about comfort and prevention, not treatment.
What will I pay without dental insurance?
A new-patient exam with X-rays is $137, with a cleaning billed separately (from $120 for adults, $100 for children). Deeper cleanings for gum disease cost more, and we’ll quote everything before we start.
