Oral Surgery in Southern Pines, NC
A lot of the surgical work we do across the Sandhills isn’t about wisdom teeth at all — it’s about removing teeth that can’t be saved and rebuilding from there. At our Capital Drive office we extract problem teeth, smooth the ridge so dentures fit, and place implants to anchor them, all in one plan with one team. For Pinehurst, Aberdeen, and Seven Lakes patients who’d rather not shuttle between a dentist and a separate surgeon, keeping it together is the point.
Tooth that needs to come out, or planning for dentures or implants? Call (910) 839-0055 and we’ll image it and map the steps.
Surgical Services We Provide
- Tooth extractions — simple removals and surgical extraction of failing or broken-down teeth
- Denture preparation — taking out teeth and leveling the bony ridge so a plate sits right
- Dental implants — placed surgically with 3D mapping, including implants that hold a denture steady
- Minor grafting — protecting the socket and ridge after removal, and small grafts beside an implant
- Wisdom teeth — erupted molars and a good share of impacted ones
- Tori removal — bony growths that get in a denture’s way, selected cases
Extractions and Rebuilding the Bite
When a tooth is cracked below the gum, loose from bone loss, or too broken down to repair, removing it is the start of getting you back to chewing comfortably — not the end. We plan the extraction with what comes next in mind: preserving the socket with a small graft when an implant is coming, or leveling the ridge when a denture is the plan. Doing the surgery and the restoration under one roof means the bone is prepared correctly for whatever’s replacing the tooth.
Wisdom Teeth — and an Honest Boundary
Plenty of adults still carry wisdom teeth that finally cause trouble — decay, gum infection, or pressure on a neighbor. We remove erupted ones and many impacted ones here, planning each with a 3D scan. We don’t, however, claim every case: a tooth lodged very deep, or tangled near the jaw nerve or sinus, is safer with an oral surgeon. The imaging is how we tell the difference, and if yours is higher-risk, we’ll recommend the specialist plainly rather than push it.
Comfort and Safety
The procedure is done under local anesthesia, so you stay numb and pain-free. For nerves, nitrous oxide offers gentle relaxation that fades within minutes afterward, and an oral anti-anxiety medication can be prescribed to take before you arrive. We don’t use IV sedation. Because many of our surgical patients are managing other health conditions, we review your medical history and current medications carefully before scheduling — safe care first.
What we refer out. Knowing our limits keeps you safe. Jaw-correction surgery, repair after facial trauma, sinus lifts, and biopsies are referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, as are wisdom teeth lodged very deep or near the nerve or sinus and any infection that has moved into the neck or turned the tissue firm. We arrange the referral and pass along your imaging.
Cost and Insurance
A medically necessary removal, wisdom teeth among them, is covered by most plans, with your exact share set by the policy. Rather than post a flat fee for surgery that varies tooth to tooth, we confirm your benefits and write the estimate down for you at the consult. Implant pricing is detailed on our Southern Pines implants page. For whatever remains, Sunbit and CareCredit, alongside the O2 Advantage Plan, keep it manageable month to month.
Oral Surgery— Southern Pines – Frequently Asked Questions
Can you prep my mouth for dentures?
Yes — the teeth come out and the ridge is leveled in a single plan, and we can add implants to lock a denture in place. It’s all in-house.
Do you take out all wisdom teeth?
No. Erupted molars and many buried ones, planned from a 3D scan; the deepest or nerve-and-sinus-close ones go to a surgeon, decided from the imaging.
What sedation do you offer?
The area is numbed, laughing gas eases nerves, and a calming tablet can be taken first — alongside a close look at your medications and history. No intravenous sedation.
Does insurance cover extractions?
Most plans cover medically necessary removals, with the share set by your policy. We verify it and write up the estimate at the consult; Sunbit and CareCredit, alongside the O2 Advantage Plan, cover any balance.
How long is recovery?
Comfort returns in a few days, and you’re ready for the next step in a week or two. Protecting the clot early is what prevents dry socket.
