Delta Dental Dentists, In Network at All Six O2 Dental Group Offices

Trusted dentist in Durham NC

If your dental card says Delta Dental, you can stop scrolling through provider directories. Every O2 Dental Group office in North Carolina is in network with Delta Dental, and so is every dentist who works in them.

The short answer: O2 Dental Group accepts Delta Dental PPO, Delta Dental Premier, and FEDVIP Delta Dental at our Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, Wilmington, Siler City and Southern Pines offices. We file the claim for you, and you pay only your share at the visit. We do not take DeltaCare USA, which is Delta’s HMO.

Which Delta Dental plans we take

Delta Dental sells several kinds of coverage, and the name on the card doesn’t always tell you which one you have. Your plan type is usually printed on the front of the ID card or listed in your benefits portal. Here’s where each one stands with us.

Delta Dental plan At O2 Dental Group What it means for you
Delta Dental PPO
In network, all six offices
Billed at Delta’s PPO contracted fees, which usually gives you the lowest out-of-pocket share.
Delta Dental Premier
In network, all six offices
Billed at Delta’s Premier contracted fees. No balance billing above the Premier fee.
FEDVIP Delta Dental (federal employees and retirees)
In network, all six offices
Use it at any O2 location. Same direct claim filing as any other Delta plan.
DeltaCare USA (HMO)
Not accepted
HMO plans require you to use an assigned office. We are not on that list.

Not sure which one you have? Call any of our offices with your member ID. It takes the front desk a few minutes to look it up.

What happens with your claim

You shouldn’t have to mail paperwork to an insurance company after a cleaning. At O2, the office handles Delta from start to finish.

Before you come in

When you book, we ask for your Delta member ID and the name of the subscriber on the policy. The team checks your deductible, how much of your annual maximum is left, any waiting periods on major work, and how often your plan pays for things like exams, X-rays and cleanings. If something on your plan looks unusual, you hear about it before the appointment, not after.

At the visit

If the dentist recommends treatment, you get a written estimate that splits the cost into what Delta is expected to pay and what you’re expected to owe. Nothing gets scheduled until you’ve seen that number.

After the visit

We send the claim to Delta electronically. You pay your estimated portion at checkout. If Delta’s payment comes back different from the estimate, we’ll let you know and settle the difference either way.

Have a second dental plan through a spouse? Give us both cards. We bill Delta and the secondary carrier in the right order so you get the coordination of benefits you’re paying for.

PPO or Premier: does it matter here?

For most people, not much. Delta runs two networks side by side. Delta Dental PPO uses a lower contracted fee schedule. Delta Dental Premier is the older, larger network, with its own set of contracted fees. Many employer plans let you see dentists in either one.

The practical point is this: because O2 participates in both, your visit is billed as in network whichever network your plan routes it through. When a plan pays more generously in the PPO network, which many do, you get the PPO rate here.

Federal employees and retirees with FEDVIP Delta Dental

Delta is one of the dental carriers offered through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program. In Fayetteville, that tends to mean Department of the Army civilians working at Fort Bragg and staff at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center. Around Durham and Raleigh, it’s federal workers from Research Triangle Park, including the EPA campus and NIEHS, and staff at the Durham VA. Federal retirees settle near every one of our offices, and their FEDVIP coverage travels with them.

FEDVIP Delta Dental is in network at all six O2 locations. If you’re a military retiree who picked Delta during a FEDVIP Open Season, the same applies to you.

One tip for anyone choosing a FEDVIP plan during Open Season: compare the annual maximum and the waiting period for major services, not just the premium. If you know a crown or implant is coming, those two numbers matter more than a few dollars a month.

Getting the most out of your Delta benefits

Dental plans reward people who use the preventive side and plan the rest. A few things we help patients do:

If your Delta coverage changes

Jobs change, and dental coverage often goes with them. If you lose Delta between employers, you don’t have to put care on hold. The O2 Advantage Plan is our in-house membership, starting at $25 a month. It includes routine cleanings, all exams and all X-rays, plus 20% off every other service we provide, gum disease treatment included. It isn’t insurance, so there are no deductibles or claim forms.

For larger treatment plans, monthly payments are available through Sunbit and CareCredit. See financing and insurance for details.

Delta Dental questions we hear most

Is O2 Dental Group in network with Delta Dental?

Yes. All six O2 offices are in network with Delta Dental PPO, Delta Dental Premier and FEDVIP Delta Dental. Every dentist at each office participates, so you won’t be booked with someone who’s out of network.

No. DeltaCare USA is Delta’s HMO, and we don’t participate in it. If your card says DeltaCare, call Delta to ask whether your employer offers a PPO option at the next enrollment period.

Yes. We file directly with Delta. You pay your estimated share at checkout and we collect the rest from the plan.

Yes. FEDVIP Delta Dental is in network at all six locations. That includes federal retirees and military retirees who chose Delta through FEDVIP.

They’re two Delta networks with different contracted fees. PPO fees are usually lower. Since we’re in both, you’re billed at in-network rates whichever one your plan uses.

Give the front desk your member ID when you book. We check your deductible, remaining annual maximum, waiting periods and frequency limits, and you get an estimate before any treatment is scheduled.

Yes. Call the office closest to you. Most Delta plans cover an emergency exam, and the team will tell you what your plan pays before any treatment starts.
