Welcome to O2 Dental Group — Durham’s Patient-First Dental Practice
At O2 Dental Group in Durham, NC, we believe great dental care starts with great communication. We don’t rush patients in and0. out. We take the time to show you what we found, what it means, and what your real options are — then we let you decide.
Durham is a city with Duke and a short drive from UNC-Chapel Hill — a community that’s educated, diverse, and rightly skeptical of anything that feels like a sales pitch. We think that’s exactly the right instinct, and we built this practice to earn that kind of patient’s trust: clear explanations, honest recommendations, and no pressure.
And because great care shouldn’t depend on the language you speak, our team includes bilingual staff fluent in English and Spanish. ¡Se habla español!
Rooted in Durham and the Southern Triangle
Our Watkins Road office sits where southern Durham meets the communities that border it — which makes it genuinely convenient for a wide slice of the Triangle, not just one neighborhood. Hope Valley and Woodcroft are a few minutes away. Southpoint and Parkwood have direct Watkins Road access. Central Durham neighborhoods like Forest Hills and Old West Durham reach us straight down Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd.
Coming from further out? Chapel Hill and Carrboro are about 15–20 minutes north via US-15/501. Morrisville and Cary are roughly 20–25 minutes via I-40 West or NC-54. Apex runs about 25–30 minutes via US-64 or I-40, and the RTP corridor and Brier Creek are an easy hop on I-40.
Why Durham Patients Choose O2 Dental Group
Durham has plenty of dental offices. Patients choose O2 Dental Group because they want more than a quick cleaning — they want a practice that handles the full range of care under one roof, with the technology for complex cases and a communication style that makes them actually want to come back.
Same-day emergency access
Dental pain doesn’t wait for a convenient opening. We hold same-day availability for emergencies and urgent needs whenever scheduling allows.
CEREC same-day crowns.
Design, mill, and permanently place a porcelain crown in a single visit — no temporary, no second trip across the Triangle.
Full-service dentistry under one roof
General, cosmetic, restorative, implant, and emergency care in one location. Fewer referrals, more consistent care for your whole family.
Advanced technology, including 3D imaging
3D cone beam CT imaging maps bone in three dimensions for accurate implant planning and complex diagnosis — far more than a flat 2D X-ray can show.
Dental implants planned properly
From single missing teeth to full-arch rehabilitation, evaluated with CBCT imaging and a conservative, function-first plan.
Family-friendly, including the youngest patients
We welcome children ages 3 and up and work to make early visits genuinely positive — building the foundation for adults who don’t dread the dentist.
A bilingual team — se habla español
Spanish-speaking team members communicate directly — not through an app — for clinical explanations, treatment, home-care instructions, and insurance questions.
Insurance and financing support, up front
Most major PPO plans accepted, the O2 Advantage Plan for patients without insurance, and flexible monthly financing — with a written estimate before anything is scheduled.

Emergency Dentist in Durham, NC
A severe toothache at 8 AM. A broken crown before a meeting. A knocked-out tooth at Saturday-morning soccer. Dental emergencies don’t wait for a convenient opening — and they shouldn’t have to wait for a callback and a Thursday slot either.
O2 Dental Group of Durham holds same-day emergency availability whenever scheduling allows. We move quickly to find the problem, get you out of pain, and give you a clear picture of what comes next. Infections deserve particular urgency: a localized abscess treated promptly is straightforward, but left to spread over a few days it becomes more complex, more expensive, and occasionally a genuine medical emergency.
We commonly treat:
- Severe toothaches and dental infections
- Broken, cracked, or chipped teeth
- Knocked-out teeth (time-sensitive — call immediately)
- Facial swelling or abscess
- Lost crowns or fillings
- Broken dentures
- Dental trauma and acute gum pain
- Pain after recent dental work
Dental Implants in Durham, NC
A missing tooth affects more than the appearance of your smile. Once a tooth is gone, the underlying jawbone begins to lose the stimulation that normally comes from a tooth root. Over time, that can lead to bone loss, shifting teeth, bite changes, and even subtle alterations in facial structure. Dental implants are unique because they replace both the visible tooth and the root beneath it, helping maintain bone while restoring long-term function and stability.
At O2 Durham, every implant case begins with advanced 3D cone beam CT (CBCT) imaging. This technology provides a detailed view of bone quality, bone volume, and surrounding anatomical structures, allowing treatment to be planned with far greater precision than traditional 2D X-rays. In many cases, patients who were previously told they did not have enough bone for implants discover additional treatment options after a comprehensive 3D evaluation. If your implant candidacy was determined without CBCT imaging, a more thorough assessment may reveal possibilities that were previously overlooked.
We provide implant care for:
- Single missing teeth
- Multiple missing teeth
- Implant-supported bridges
- Implant-supported dentures and overdentures
- Full-arch / full-mouth rehabilitation
- Second opinions on existing treatment plans

Cosmetic Dentist in Durham That Looks Like You — Only Better
The best cosmetic work doesn’t look like work — it looks like the healthiest, most natural version of the smile you already have. At O2 Durham, cosmetic treatment is planned as restorative work first: bite mechanics, tooth structure, and gum health are evaluated before any aesthetic decision is made. A veneer placed over an underlying problem looks great for two years and needs redoing at year three; one placed after the foundation is sound holds up far longer.
Our cosmetic services include:
- Porcelain veneers — for chips, gaps, staining, and shape
- Professional teeth whitening — in-office, visible same-day improvement
- Composite bonding — same-day repair for minor chips and gaps
- Invisalign — discreet alignment without metal brackets
- Smile makeovers — multiple treatments sequenced for the right result
Every cosmetic consultation starts with an honest assessment of what will actually work and last — with realistic expectations, not a menu of what’s available to sell.
Invisalign in Durham for Adults & Teens
Many patients want a straighter smile without the appearance and inconvenience of traditional braces, which is why Invisalign remains a popular option for both working professionals and students in Durham. At O2 Dental Group of Durham, we use Invisalign clear aligners to address a wide range of orthodontic concerns while keeping treatment as discreet as possible.
Your Invisalign consultation begins with a digital evaluation of your teeth and bite. Using advanced treatment-planning technology, we can show how your smile is expected to move throughout treatment and discuss whether Invisalign is the most effective solution for your goals. You’ll receive clear information about treatment expectations, estimated timelines, and available financing options before making a decision.
Because the aligners are removable, you can continue enjoying your favorite foods and maintain your normal brushing and flossing routine without the challenges often associated with traditional braces. Treatment length varies from patient to patient, but many adults complete Invisalign treatment within approximately 12 to 18 months.
Designed for Comfort, Built Around Honest Care
Dental anxiety is not a character flaw — it’s a common response to a setting with close physical proximity, unfamiliar sounds, and a historical association with discomfort. We take it seriously by addressing the specific triggers that drive it: noise-cancelling headphones, ceiling-mounted screens with streaming during treatment, memory foam pillows, and warm lavender-scented towels. Sedation options are available for patients who need pharmacological support.
On the clinical side, O2 Durham uses 3D cone beam CT imaging for implant planning and complex diagnosis, CEREC CAD/CAM for same-day crowns, digital radiography that reduces radiation versus traditional film, intraoral cameras, and radiation-free cavity detection that catches early demineralization before it becomes a cavity.
Meet the Dentists at O2 Dental Group of Durham
Dr. Olu Oyegunwa, DDS — Founder & Owner
Dr. Olu Oyegunwa is the founder and owner of O2 Dental Group. Born in Nigeria and raised in North Carolina, he earned his undergraduate degree in Microbiology at NC State before completing his DDS at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. His Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville focused his training in fixed and removable prosthodontics, implant placement and restoration, and oral surgery.
Over more than 15 years of placing and restoring dental implants, Dr. Olu has built his approach around careful planning, patient education, long-term function, and natural esthetics — identifying problems at their earliest, most manageable stage rather than waiting for extensive intervention. He has grown O2 Dental Group across multiple North Carolina communities with a consistent focus on convenient access, clear communication, advanced treatment options, and a comfortable patient experience.
Founder & Owner
Dr. Vanessa Cross, DDS
Dr. Vanessa Cross arrived in North Carolina in 2010 and never left. She earned her undergraduate degree in Afro-American Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill and went on to complete her DDS at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry — giving the Durham team a shared clinical foundation in one of the country’s most respected dental programs. A genuine Bull City local, she spends her time outside the office exploring downtown Durham, catching shows at DPAC, and cheering on the Durham Bulls. Her dentistry is built on real relationships: patients who’ve had dismissive experiences elsewhere consistently describe Dr. Cross as the provider who changed how they feel about going to the dentist.
Our Durham team is here to build real, lasting relationships with patients — not just treat teeth and move on. You’ll feel that difference from your very first visit.
What to Expect at Your First Visit
New patients are always welcome. Your first appointment is a comprehensive exam and treatment-planning session — not a rushed intake. Plan for roughly 60 to 90 minutes.
- Check-in & paperwork. Our front desk team gets you settled quickly. Complete your new patient forms online before you arrive to save time.
- Comprehensive exam. A review of your health and dental history, plus a comprehensive exam of teeth, gums, bite, and any existing restorations — with digital X-rays as clinically indicated and an oral cancer screening.
- Honest debrief. We walk you through what we found in plain language — what’s urgent, what’s elective, and what can simply be monitored — with time to ask questions.
- Your personalized care plan. If treatment is recommended, you receive a personalized plan with transparent cost information and financing options reviewed before anything is scheduled.
Bring a photo ID, your insurance card (if you have coverage), a list of current medications, and any recent X-rays or records from a previous dentist.
Insurance & Financing at O2 Dental Group of Durham
Questions about cost shouldn’t prevent you from getting the dental care you need. At O2 Dental Group of Durham, we believe patients should understand the financial side of treatment before making any decisions. That’s why our team reviews insurance benefits, discusses available payment options, and provides clear treatment estimates in advance.
Before any procedure is scheduled, we’ll walk you through your expected coverage, explain any out-of-pocket expenses, and answer questions about financing if needed. Our goal is to give you straightforward information so you can move forward with confidence, knowing exactly what to expect.
