Blue Cross NC Dentists: Dental Blue Accepted In Network at Every O2 Office

Trusted dentist in Durham NC

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is the state’s largest health insurer, so there’s a good chance the dental card in your wallet is a blue one. If it is, any O2 Dental Group office will take it, in network, with any of our dentists.

Here’s where we stand with Blue Cross: all six O2 offices are in network with Blue Cross NC Dental Blue and with FEP BlueDental, the Blue plan for federal employees and retirees. We send the claim to Blue Cross ourselves, so checkout covers just your portion. Blue Medicare members are welcome too; see the Medicare section below for how those dental benefits work.

First, check which card you're holding

This trips people up more than anything else. A Blue Cross medical plan and a Blue Cross dental plan are usually two separate policies with two separate member IDs. Most Blue Cross NC medical plans don’t include routine dental care for adults, and the dental side is sold on its own as Dental Blue.

Your medical card

Covers doctor visits, hospital care and prescriptions. Hand it to us anyway; it can matter if a dental problem crosses into medical territory, and it helps us find your dental policy if the two are linked through your employer.

Your dental card

Usually labeled Dental Blue, or FEP BlueDental if you’re a federal employee. This is the one that pays for exams, cleanings, fillings and crowns. If you can’t find it, the Blue Connect member portal lists your dental coverage.

Can’t find either one? Tell the front desk your employer and date of birth when you call. That’s often enough for the team to track down your coverage.

How Dental Blue works at our offices

Dental Blue lets members see any licensed dentist in North Carolina, but costs are lower with an in-network dentist, and preventive care in network has no deductible. Since every O2 dentist is in network, you get the lower rate no matter which office or provider you book.

FEP BlueDental for federal employees and retirees

FEP BlueDental is the Blue Cross Blue Shield dental plan offered through FEDVIP, the federal dental and vision program. Federal employees, federal retirees and their families can enroll, and so can military retirees and their families, who use FEDVIP for dental after leaving active duty.

A few 2026 plan details worth knowing, because they reward staying in network:

All six O2 offices are in network with FEP BlueDental, so you get the in-network terms at any of them. If you’re a military retiree comparing FEDVIP plans, our TRICARE and military dental page explains how retiree coverage differs from the TRICARE Dental Program.

Blue Medicare and dental benefits

Original Medicare, Parts A and B, doesn’t cover routine dental care. Many Blue Cross NC Medicare plans add a dental benefit, and that benefit is administered by a separate company, LIBERTY Dental, on Blue Cross NC’s behalf. Your dental benefit may pay differently than your medical coverage.

O2 sees Medicare patients at all six offices. Call with your Blue Medicare member ID before your first visit, and we’ll tell you exactly how your plan pays here and what you’d owe.

If you lose your Blue Cross dental coverage

Retirement, a layoff or switching jobs can leave you without a dental plan for a while. The O2 Advantage Plan bridges that gap. It’s a monthly membership starting at $25 a month. Members get cleanings, checkups and X-rays at no extra charge, and you get 20% off everything else we do, including gum disease treatment. No claims, no waiting periods.

Larger treatment plans can be paid over time with Sunbit or CareCredit; details are on our financing page.

Blue Cross dental questions

Is O2 in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina?

Yes. Every office and every dentist is in network with Dental Blue. Whichever O2 dentist you see, Blue Cross treats the visit as in network.

For most adults, no. Dental is usually a separate Dental Blue policy with its own card. Bring both if you’re not sure and we’ll check.

Yes, at all six offices. In network, there’s no deductible, and the High Option has no annual maximum.

We see Medicare patients at every office. Because Blue Medicare dental benefits are run by LIBERTY Dental, we check your plan’s terms with you ahead of treatment.

We do. The office submits it electronically, and you settle only your estimated portion at checkout.

It depends on the plan, since each state’s Blue company runs its own dental network. Call us with your member ID and we’ll check before you book.
