Wisdom Teeth Removal in Raleigh, NC
Timing it around school, work and the weekend
- Book a Saturday, recover on Sunday. With our alternate-Saturday hours, a teen can have teeth out on a weekend morning and miss little or no class. For students at schools like Wakefield, Heritage or Rolesville High, that's often the easiest option.
- Plan around school breaks. Winter break, spring break and the summer are popular. If you're aiming for one of them, call a few weeks ahead so the consultation and scan happen first.
- College students home for the holidays can do the consultation and the removal during the same break if the schedule allows. Tell us your dates when you call.
- Working adults often choose a Thursday, which leaves Friday through Sunday to recover.
What happens at our Raleigh office
The consultation
The dentist examines your mouth and takes a 3D CBCT scan in the office. You see the scan on screen: where each wisdom tooth sits, whether it’s impacted, and how close the lower roots are to the nerve. You leave with a written price for every tooth that needs to come out. No referral is needed to book.
Removal day
The area is numbed with local anesthetic. If you’re nervous, nitrous oxide takes the edge off and wears off before you leave; an oral anti-anxiety medication is the other option, and with that one you’ll need a driver. Many patients have all their wisdom teeth out in one appointment.
Every case is planned in-house. Occasionally a tooth is positioned in a way that’s safer to handle elsewhere, such as one sitting directly against the nerve, and the scan will show that at the consultation, so there are no surprises on removal day.
For parents of teens
Patients under 18 need a parent or guardian’s consent, so plan to come to the consultation and the procedure. We’ll walk you through the scan, the cost and the aftercare together. Younger brothers and sisters can be seen next door at Dino Kids Dental, our children’s practice in Suite 101.
Cost at the Raleigh office
An erupted wisdom tooth is $200 to $600 to remove. An impacted one is $400 to $1,200, depending on how deep it is and how it’s angled. The consultation and scan turn that range into an exact number before you commit.
Insurance usually picks up part of the bill. Our team accepts Delta Dental, Dental Blue from Blue Cross NC, United Concordia and UnitedHealthcare in network. Guard families, take note: the North Carolina National Guard is headquartered in Raleigh, and we take the TRICARE Dental Program too. Every plan this office takes is listed on its insurance page.
No insurance? O2 Advantage Plan members take 20% off, and the plan starts at $25 a month. For several teeth at once, Sunbit or CareCredit can split the bill into monthly payments. More pricing detail is on the extraction cost page.
Before you come in: a short checklist
- Stock the freezer and pantry with soft foods: yogurt, pudding, applesauce, soup you can let cool, mashed potatoes.
- Pick up ice packs or a bag of frozen peas for the outside of your cheek.
- If you're taking the oral anti-anxiety medication, line up a ride home and someone to stay with you for the afternoon.
- Skip straws, smoking and vaping for several days afterward. Suction can dislodge the clot and lead to dry socket.
- Clear your calendar for two or three quiet days. Most people are back to their routine within about a week.
The complete aftercare guide is on our post-operative instructions page, and the full overview of how and why wisdom teeth come out is on our wisdom teeth removal page.
